The 2026 Theme: Year of the Fire Horse
This year’s theme is Year of the Fire Horse. The Royal invites exhibitors to create displays inspired by the horse’s significance in Chinese culture and the partnership between horse and rider.
Exhibitors may draw on colors, patterns, and artistic elements associated with the theme and Lunar New Year traditions. The Royal asks that displays reflect the cultural significance of those traditions respectfully.
Start with an idea that suits your barn, then carry it through the space. A consistent color palette, coordinated signage, and a few carefully chosen details can make a stronger impression than trying to fill every available area.
How the Tack Room Competition Is Judged
The Royal scores displays out of 100 points across three categories:
- Representation of the theme (40 points): Creative interpretation, respectful cultural inspiration, and visual impact.
- Cleanliness and presentation (30 points): A neat, organized space, safe equipment storage, and compliance with stable rules.
- Creativity and design (30 points): A cohesive display and effective use of decor.

Horse Show Tack Room Ideas for a Cohesive Display
A great tack room needs to look inviting and work for the people using it throughout the show. Begin with the practical layout: where will equipment be stored, and how will your team move through the space? Keeping the area tidy and easy to use also supports the competition’s presentation criteria.
